What are some things you can do to improve your immune system instantly?
- Staying hydrated is an essential way to support your immune system as it enhances lymphatic drainage in the body and increases immune cellular growth. IVs are a quick way to get hydration into the body and especially beneficial when boosted with vitamins or NAD+.
- Another great way to show your immune system some love is by cutting down on your alcohol intake and refined sugars. These contribute to dehydration, as well as impacting the effectiveness of the immune system's function almost immediately after ingestion.
- Along the same lines, a short term cleanse of refined sugars, grains, and ultra processed foods can be vital to enhancing our immunity. Doing a whole foods diet cleanse for even just a week can jumpstart your body and help reset it.
- Ever wonder how much water you body needs daily? Take half your body's weight, divide your weight by 2, and convert that into ounces of water needed (ie. if you weigh 150 lbs, you should drink 75 oz of water daily)
- Understanding how ph affects our immune system is also key to regulating it. We typically run in our body a ph around 6.7 to 7.0. Some people's bodies lean more acidic and some lean more alkaline. Water that is bottled is often more acidic and doesn't absorb into the body as well. What makes water more alkaline and more absorbable is minerals. Many companies that bottle water claim it is filled with electrolytes, but it is usually a sparse amount of electrolytes and not enough to bring the ph up to a level that can be absorbed well into our body. Follow this little trick to convert your simple filtered tap water or bottled water like Dasani to an increased alkaline level:
- Add a pinch of Sea Salt. Not a measured amount, just a pinch or a smidge.
- You can add lemon which is also alkaline, mint is also a great herb to add flavor and improve the ph and add antioxidants to the water as well.
May we drink to health, to presence, and to the small habits that elevate our lives. And at the heart of it all, here's to water- the quiet hero of every great day.
What lifestyle habits support a long term healthy immune system?
- Adopting a nutrient-dense diet that emphasizes whole foods, healthy fats, and protein can help a person strengthen their immune system by targeting foods that are high in vitamins and antioxidants.
- Engaging in regular physical activity is another way to boost your immunity in the long term. This supports blood circulation by helping your immune cells move throughout the body more rapidly and enhances immune cell production.
- Prioritizing sleep allows our body to dedicate time to regulate and strengthen our immune system. It gives our body the space it needs to focus on the internal immune system processes with less outside distractions.
-

How can I tell if my immune system is weak?
There are a few ways to know if your immune system is acting up. If you notice these signs in your body, taking some extra precautions to help support your immunity could be beneficial.
Slow wound healing is often a sign that your immune system isn't as strong as it should be. This can look like your body showing prolonged inflammation or infections running their course longer than usual, when getting a cut or injury. Persistent inflammation can indicate an underlying immune imbalance, which can present as chronic joint pain or body aches. If you are someone that gets sick more frequently or deals with recurring infections, it may be a sign that your immune system needs more support. These concerns are often more noticeable in the colder months. The good news is that these issues can be improved by nurturing your body through consistent, healthy daily habits.
How often should I get sick—what’s “normal”?
An adult usually comes down with 1-3 colds in a year, while children usually experience around 6-8 sicknesses in a year. When coming down with an ailment, you should pay special attention to its severity, length, and overall how your body is handling it. Noting these details can help us to recognize underlying problems and gain a better understanding of our body. Since our immune system is an internal system within our body it can be hard to identify when it needs some extra help. Analyzing how your body responds to sickness is a great first step in figuring out how strong your immunity is.
Though it is important to note, it's okay to be sick! You're building up your immune system to develop strengthen over time.
What’s the difference between a strong immune system and an overactive one?
A strong immune system is great at reacting when there is a chance for infection, while also acknowledging when the body is not in harm's way with an illness. An overactive immune system often attacks the body even when it is not sick, which can lead to autoimmune illnesses. This can look like Lupus, Asthma, allergies, Hashimoto’s, and an increase in chronic inflammation in the body. We want to make sure when we are helping our immune system, we are not only working to “boost” it, but also working to keep a positive immune balance in the body.
Can immune health be supported through bodywork?
Yes! Bodywork reduces stress, increases circulation, and addresses issues throughout the body that can contribute to poor immune health. It gives you extra assistance in helping to support your natural immune defenses.
